‘The Annual Denbigh Flower Show

The Annual Denbigh Flower Show is a popular feature of the day, our next Show will be our 80th show in our 82nd year (after our break for the pandemic) in which there are many competitions. There are almost 300 classes covering all aspects of horticulture and floristry as well as sections for art, handicrafts cookery and photography.

For younger competitors there are dedicated sections with a range classes similar to those in the main show, as well as many fun topics which make ideal summer holiday activities. In addition to the prize money for the winners, there are over 60 cups and trophies, including one that is voted for by the general public, to be awarded at the Presentation in the Grand Marquee at the end of the Show.

Classes for Children

The Children classes are split three ways into school age categories. They broadly cover most of the subjects that are seen in the adult section but with a fun element to make the preparation of the exhibits and entering an exciting past time to fill up the last days of the summer holidays!

Open Classes

There are a series of Open Classes for Flowers, Fruit and Vegetables. Open classes can be entered by anyone whether a professional or those who enjoy the hobby of growing and showing. The Open Sections are where you will see the big show-piece collections and dramatic arrangements. Judged by a team of top local judges the standard is exceptional and the competition fierce…but friendly!

Amateur Classes

For those who are new to exhibiting, or not quite so serious, there is a sizeable amateur section with over forty classes for plants and flowers. There is also a Novice vegetable section which is open to all who have not previously won a trophy at the Show and is all about encouraging the complete beginner.

Floral Art

Arranged in conjunction with Denbigh Floral Art Club, the Floral Art Section showcases the skills of the exhibitors in their interpretations of various themes using flowers and foliage. Within the section, there are open classes as well as for amateurs and novices. Its quite a task to decide who takes the silverware home but that is in the safe hands of a professional NAFAS Judge.

Cookery and Handicrafts

There are opportunities for exhibitors to show off their culinary skills in the cookery section from making a cake from our own recipe to showing off your jams and chutneys. You can even try and influence the judges with your home-made wine or why not have a bake off with your family and friends where you all enter a Victoria sponge. For the more crafty, there are several handicraft classes where, amongst other things you can knit, cross stitch or show off your carpentry skills.

Art & Photography

If you’re artistic, then you’ll find a choice of four picture categories for you to try in the art section, in any medium. All the framed exhibits hang in our gallery in the Grand Marquee.

If you are snap happy, then there is a cup up for grabs for the best picture in the photography class.
